A design publication written by the designers who actually do the work.
Your Home Styles is an independent home design magazine. We translate what top interior designers, architects, and stylists are creating into room-by-room guides you can bring into your own home — published daily, free to read, and shaped by a working editorial board in Brooklyn and Austin.
Started by a working stylist and a home editor who couldn't find the publication they wanted to read.
Your Home Styles was founded in 2019 by former interior stylist Mara Whitfield and home editor Devon Karr. At the time, Mara was on her ninth year of styling shoots for shelter magazines; Devon had just wrapped a decade-long run covering kitchens, baths, and small-space living for a national home title. Between them, they'd worked on more than four hundred room features — and noticed a recurring gap.
The best designer rooms they saw in the field rarely made it to homeowners in any usable form. The magazine spreads were beautiful but vague. The Pinterest feeds were fast but shallow. No one was doing the slow, careful work of showing a single room — say, a Japandi bedroom or a Modern Farmhouse dining nook — and walking a reader through exactly why it worked, down to the trim height, the curtain weight, and the off-white that holds up against afternoon light.
So they started this. Nine full-time writers and stylists, a network of 31 contributing designers, and a daily publishing rhythm that has produced more than 2,140 long-form articles and 9,800 room features since launch. The first issue went out to a list of sixty friends. The 187th goes out this Sunday.
